Ever since we launched ZETA's 'C-Octave' I have dreamed of recording Nancy Padilla's tune 'The Promise' as a duet with Violin and C_Octave. Natalie's recent hometown visit to Bozeman gave us just that opportunity, and was timed well with the completion of our first modern body instrument with the 'Cowgirl' trim. So here ya go . . . my dream come true! ... See MoreSee Less

ZETA JM25 MIDI Mandolin
As seen 1st on Mandolin Cafe . . . ZETA's new Jazz 5-String Fusion Mandolin is alive. Our unique design represents the total 'ZETAfication' of the traditional Florentine mandolin styling. Like its namesake . . . ZETA's all new 'Jazz Fusion' Mandolin, the JM25, combines the best from ZETA's linage: styling, performance, semi-hollow body design, and of course . . . high-tech electronic MIDI capability . . . ie, total compatibility with Roland's performance Synth, the GR-55. Hope you enjoy our demo video as local mandolinist Tom Murphy takes the JM25 out for an initial test pick. This video is long and includes both analog and MIDI samples, and an informative interview with Tom Murphy.

Both Tim and Sam had to take a 2nd look when the 1st notes of the C-Octave were bowed. Tim had wondered why I handed him a viola bow . . . and now he knew. ZETA's C_Octave instrument (aka 'Chin-Cello') is a blast to play. ... See MoreSee Less

We started off our early morning session with ZETA's Acoustic Pro 5. Not known for playing the 5-string, it was quite fun and notable to watch Tim's virtuosity kick in as the allure of the low C string sucked him in and down to explore the nether regions of the lower frequencies. Obviously . . . he was more than up to the challenge! Be sure to hang for the ending . . . which will give you a feel for the fun loving personalities behind their music. ... See MoreSee Less

ZETA had the good fortune to spend a couple hours early that morning recording some tunes with the duo. We even got a chance to test out our new ZETA->Roland GR-55 cable. We've got recordings of some great tunes to share: Tim testing out the 5-Str Acoustic Pro, the C-Octave Strados Modern, and the Jazz Fusion 5-Str. Tim loved the JV45 Roasted Flame Maple Top (as shown in pic) so much he put one on order and is joining our ZETA artist roster. Welcome aboard Tim . . . and thank you for the great recording session!

With the 1st Jean-Luc Ponty models progressing nicely through the spray booth . . . we thought this a good time to give a listen to Jean-Luc . . .

"I chose to play this piece because it's specifically for solo violin, and I play through all ranges, from the low string to very high notes on the E-string, which gives a great overall sound sample of the new reissue model ....so it shows how good ZETA's new preamp is." Jean-Luc Ponty

ZETA's first contact with Jean-Luc Ponty was made in December of 2014. Mr. Ponty was glad to see that ZETA was back in business and genuinely intrigued with the prospect of reissuing his signature model.

As mentioned earlier (kismet) . . . things really began to take shape when Gabe showed up at our ZETA Violins shop on the exact same day that Mr. Ponty emailed me about the 'strange coincidence' that Gabe (whom he knew well), and his original 1992 ZETA Jazz Fusion violin, was in Montana skiing and planning to stop by the ZETA shop.

'The project' gained momentum at that point and as it progressed Mr. Ponty remained in the loop, contributing his opinions along the way . . . ie, the imbus neck, coloring, etc . . . and providing invaluable feedback regarding sound tests and recordings we made.

Fast forward to April; now it was time to show Jean-Luc the '92 reissue model in person . . . and we were off to Europe . . . then Paris.
